Homecoming
A School Homecoming is when you celebrate coming back to school and you do events to celebrate it. In the United States it has been a tradition since the 19th century. It is traditional to have a homecoming game, dance, parades, pep rallies, and stuff like that. It is usually a football game, but can also be basketball, soccer, and/or, ice hockey. In the football game you usually play with a weak school because it should be an easy win. Homecoming are an American tradition, so only we have them, other schools may have it, but it isn’t called Homecoming. The type of game you play depends on where you live, for example Canada may play ice hockey instead of football. Also you have different events you do depending on what school you are in. In 1988, Purdy High School in Missouri was the first one to have a homecoming dance. The Homecoming usually takes place during the fall. The students that are coming back to school celebrate Homecoming as a way to see their friends again. The students that are new usually celebrate it as a way to show their support for their school and the team. Some of the events that take place during Homecoming week are school spirit week, game, dance, parades, pep rallies, and anything that shows support to your school. It is called the Homecoming game because it is usually play after an away game. Homecoming means coming home after a while, so the game means that you’re playing a game to show your excitement for coming back. Homecoming etiquette is to show your pride for the school you’re in. You have to be supported of your school and those inside of the school. My opinion on Homecoming is that it’s a very good way to show our support to the school. I find the Homecoming game fun, but not really the dance.
