The 10 Indian Commandments
  1. Treat the Earth and all that dwells therein with respect.
  2. Remain close to the Great Spirit.
  3. Show great respect to your fellow beings.
  4. Work together for the benefit of all mankind.
  5. Give assistance and kindness wherever needed.
  6. Do what you know to be right.
  7. Look after the well-being of mind and body.
  8. Dedicate a share of your efforts to the greater good.
  9. Be truthful and honest at all times.
  10. Take full responsibility for your actions.

Reflection:
Many of these talk about being good to yourself and your surroundings. They give us an inside about how the Indians lived their life. We see the code or law that they stand with. Just like every other group of people have their way of life they do too. With this list we get to know other things about them than what we usually learned. They help us see them in another light, different point of view. You can tell that they were really connected with their environment and they really cared about keeping the Earth clean and beautiful. By this we can tell how much our thoughts and our way of mind have changed throughout the years. Sadly, we don’t care about our planet as much as they did. I think that for sure this should be a thing we should fix, the way we treat our environment. Taking care of ourselves and others isn’t the only important thing. We need to look out for our planet because so far it’s the only one we have.

“Goodness is the only investment that never fails.”
-Henry David Thoreau
In life we will investment in many things and they might not turn up the way we want it to, but that’s just how it is. There is one investment that we should all do and it is guaranteed that it won’t fail; goodness. When we invest in goodness we make the decision of always doing good no matter what. If you decide to invest in this it will succeed unlike other investments. For example, people find ways to invest their money, but sometimes they trust the wrong person and their investment fails. When you invest in goodness that is the only investment you do where you are investing in yourself, so there is little to no chances of this investment failing. We should always strike to do good and doing an investment on this will just be a way for you to remember to be good. We trend to waste our time investing in unimportant things and even though we know we will fail we still do them. Instead we should waste our time in things that matter like promising to do good. This is why you should invest in goodness, besides the fact that it doesn’t fail.

“My basic principle is that you don’t make decisions because they are easy; you don’t make them because they are cheap; you don’t make them because they are popular; you make them because they’re right.”
-Theodore Hesburgh
When we make decisions we have to make sure that we make them because they are right and not for any other reason. For example, your decisions should be based on what will help you become better in the future not what other people tell you to do. Sometimes we make decisions that will make other people like us, but that isn’t the point. For example, if I am going to make a decisions that affects my life I will make sure that I am the one who come up with the decision and not someone else. At the end of the day that decision will affect me not my friend, so why let them make the decision for me. Also you shouldn’t pick the easy way out of something because that decision will be considered cheap meaning that instead of solving the problem it will make it worse. Our decisions today will affect our tomorrow, so it is very important to think about we want to do. If we are thinking in the moment and do something dumb then that will affect our future in a dumb way. This is why we need to think over our decisions, but also make sure not to overthink too much because that isn’t good for you. Think before you act because somethings can’t be reversed.

Optometry Technician or Assistant
Duties and Responsibilities:
Optometry technicians help out the optometrist in carrying out eye examination and treatments. Their duties are testing patients visual acuity, depth perception, pressure inside of eye, and color vision and pupil reflexes. They also prepared the exam room the day that an exam is being taken. They help make or fix eyeglasses for patients. Finally, they clean ocular equipment and do other duties if needed.

Salary: $30,590 (2015)

Education:
In order to work on this medical field you need to have at least a high school diploma. Then you do a 2 year of optometric technician training. After that you should have an  associate degree since that makes you more competitive. Some courses that you need are anatomy, physiology of the eye, optics, optometric procedures, and optical devices.

Demand:
According to BLS this medical career is growing by 23% from 2014-2024. Also this career is in high demand since technology is taking a hold of our life leading to kids being next to a screen at a very young age. Since they are exposed to this so young they might require glasses at a younger age.

Reflection:
Although this medical career is kind of interesting and important I wouldn’t like to be one. It is also good pay, but what’s the point of making a lot of money if you don’t enjoy what you are doing. For these reasons I wouldn’t like to be an optometry technician or assistant.

"It is our duty to concentrate all our influence to make popular that which is sound and good and unpopular that which is unsound"

-Joseph Smith

We should always promote good things even when the world around us is bad. No matter how hard times may get we should always make sure to stay honest and true to ourselves and others. If we are going to be an influence to anyone then we should make sure that it is a good one. We had enough bad in this world and we certainly don't need anymore. For example, I always try to be the positive influence when I am around others. I have sometimes gotten into arguments with others because they won't listen to reason and what is right. I am not saying I always do what's right, but sometimes when I see that someone is doing something hurtful to themselves or others I always try to help them somehow. That's how it should be, we should always be the positive influence and although sometimes it's hard we should always strike for that. Being a good person or influence isn't a very common thing because people especially teens try to be bad to fit in, but that isn't how it should be. If it isn't a popular choice then maybe more of us need to stop worrying about what others may say and be ourselves. If you want to help others and be a good influence on people then go for it.

Spring Break

This past spring break has to be one of the best I have had. I didn't go to many different places, but I did go to one and it was really enjoyable. On Saturday, April 8 I went to Barnes and Noble at The Grove for a book signing event that was taken place. I got the chance to get my book signed and I also met the author, Matthew Espinosa. Now this was his first book so that's one of the reasons why you don't know him and secondly he is a social media star, so mostly teens are the ones who may know him. I have been supporting him for so long and it was so great to finally meet him. I surprisingly was able to have a conversation with him without getting frozen like I usually do when meeting someone new. While waiting in line to meet him I also met this girl who was in front of me so I made anew friend as well. I read the book, More Than Me, which is about his life, when I got home and I finished it the same day. That same day I went to Santa Monica beach and I saw some of the cars from The Fate of the Furious and a kite flying race. Besides meeting him I also got the chance to go to The Grove which is a place I have been wanting to go to for the longest. The rest of my spring break was uneventful. I had a couple of sleepovers with my cousins and we watched some movies. Two of the movies we watched and enjoyed the most were Charlie St.Cloud and Deep Water Horizon. These were really good movies and I totally recommended it. The rest of spring break I went to the park with my cousins, read a couple of teen fictions, and watched some of my favorite shows. I also worked on the homework that was assigned which wasn't much.

“I am not bound to win, but I am bound to be true. I must stand with anybody that stands right, and stand with him while he is right, and part with him when he goes wrong.”
-Abraham Lincoln

We aren’t always going to win, but that’s just how life is. Just because we don’t win all the time doesn’t mean we don’t need to stay and be true. If you win it has to be because you did it honestly. When we know we won’t win something don’t try to cheat your way to the top. For example, let’s say you didn’t study for a test, but you really want to do good, so you decide to cheat. This is wrong because you will win something, but deep down you know you didn’t deserve that grade because you didn’t try. It is better to lose doing what’s right then win by cheating. We have to stand with those who are right and when they are wrong we need to tell them. Even if they are your friend, wrong is wrong, no matter what form it comes in. Remember that no matter what you have to stay true to yourself!

They figure out if the patient is farsighted or nearsighted and they test patients to see if they have glaucoma.

You also need a license to practice in a particular state. Before this program you need to take three years of post secondary education. To get a license you must complete all the requirements for National Board of Examiners in Optometry.

Demand:
Vision problems have increased over the years the demand for Optometrist have been increasing as well. Also as technology advances more people will be looking at a screen more times and at a younger age leading to vision problem which then leads to more Optometrists.  It is projected to grow by 27% which is faster than the average for all occupations.

Reflection:
I will not like to be an Optometrist because I don’t feel like I will be right for that job. I have got to the eye doctor lots of times and I see some of the stuff they do and it doesn’t interest me. I also have my mind set on a particular career which makes me shut down other careers that I might like. It is very important and I appreciate the work they do especially since I have vision problems.

“Character is higher than intellect.”
-Ralph Waldo Emerson

You can be the smartest person ever, but what it comes down to is your character. If you don't have a good character then it doesn’t matter how smart you are. Your brains will soon fade, but the thing that won’t fade is your character. Yes, it is nice and it’s an amazing feeling that people recognize you for your brains. Honestly, it feels way better if someone recognizes you for your personality. If you don’t have a good character then people won't like to be around you. You have to ask yourself what’s better, having friends and having intellect or just being intellect. You don’t want to be lonely even if you think that others will distract you from your future goals. What’s the point of living if you have no one to share your happiness with? You can be intellect, but also make sure to have a good character.
