“A man without a goal is like a ship without a rudder.”
-Thomas Carlyle
A rudder is the direction that the boat/ship is heading, without it the boat will just move in circles. That is the way we will move if we don’t have goals. Our goals head us into a certain direction, but without them we are lost and don’t know what to do. A ship without a rudder is lost, it is nothing and that’s how we are if we don’t have goals, we don’t have purpose. Our goals shape us and help us make the future we envision. For example, the goals that I created are all part of a bigger picture, at the end the result will be bigger than each goal. We can’t create our future if we don’t put milestones that we want to get to. The rudder is a very small piece, but a very important one as well. Without it the ship can’t survive and can’t get to it’s final place. This statement states that we can’t survive, we can’t live if we don’t have our rudder.

Memorial Day Weekend
This Memorial Day Weekend I didn’t do that much things that were fun like before. I just stayed home and be with my family. On Saturday I woke up early went out to eat and then I went to the Swap-Meet with my parents. After that we went to Target and then to Wal-Mart to buy an iTunes card. One of my favorite artists released their new EP and I wanted to get it, so I bought an iTunes card. The EP was Gone by Jack and Jack and I totally recommended. They have a lot of meaningful lyrics and their voice and music style have improved throughout the years, so I think you should give it a listen. On Sunday I stayed home and watched the soccer game with my parents. Starting Saturday I read this book, “Pushing The Limits,” and today I finished it. It is a really good book that will give you a roller-coaster of emotions. While reading the book I felt happy, angry, sad, worry, and then happy again. If you have the time I recommend you read it as well. For homework I worked on English and Bio-med. Movies that I watched were Twilight:Eclipse and Charlie St.Cloud. I also re-watch the three last episodes of my favorite show, Girl Meets World.

“When a deep injury is done to us, we never recover until we forgive.”
-Alan Paton
We can try and hate a person as much as we want, but that won’t do us any good. We shouldn’t hold grudges against anyone because that won’t make what’s wrong right, it will only make it worse. The only way to truly move on is to forgive each and ourselves. I like to think that believe we forgive others we need to forgive ourselves because what’s the point of others forgiving us if we still feel guilty. For example, there’s this show, Girl Meets World, that I used to watch that had an episode, “The Forgiveness Project,” relating to this topic. The episode was about one of the main characters learning to forgive her dad who left her when she was young. She couldn’t do it because there are certain things that take long to forgive. She wonder why her teacher asked her to do it if he knew she couldn’t and that’s when he told her the whole purpose of that project. He asked her if she had forgiven herself. She always blame herself for her dad leaving because she never knew the real reason she thought he left because she wasn’t good enough. The point was for her to know his reasons and when she did she knew that he left because he wasn’t ready. This lead to her forgiving herself and later on she could forgive him. This relates to the statement because she wasn’t able to move on until she forgive. It is important to forgive, but more important to forgive yourself.

“Dare to do right”
-Rex D. Pinegar
I can remember a time when I have done a dare to prove something to others, but I can’t remember when I was dare to do what’s right. We think we are all so strong and brave doing the dares that others tell me, but in reality it is the opposite. We are proving to be weak because someone who is strong does what they know is right and not what others tell us. We are proving that we are weak because we are easily manipulated by others. We are weak of mind because someone who is strong stands their ground. We shouldn’t do dares because some can cause accidents. For example, I remember a long time ago my cousin dare his cousin and friend to created a flame. One of them had the match while the other had the cologne.  My cousin’s cousin lighted the match and his friend released the cologne creating a big flame. Luckily, nothing happen to us, but it could have. They could have burned themselves, others, or the things around them. As you can see this could have created a tragedy just because of a dare. If you want to prove you are strong then dare to do right.

“Dare to stand alone.”
-Thomas S. Monson

We need to know how to stand our ground and do what we want not what others tell us. If you stand alone it doesn’t mean you are weak because you have no one with you. It means that you are strong even to believe in yourself and you don’t need anyone by your side. We so easily decide to do all these dares our friends tell us, but when it comes to standing up for what’s right we don’t do it. We need to be confident in what we believe in no matter what the crowd says. We aren’t our friends we are ourselves, so why do we do everything they do?! For example, I believe in what I believe and when someone bothers me about it I stand up for myself. I know it isn’t easy because most of us prefer to stand in the shadows and let others do the speaking for us. If we want to make this our world then we have to know how to stand up for ourselves. If you want the world to be a certain way then let your voice be heard. You can’t expect someone else to do what you want to do in this world. Don’t be afraid to be yourself. I know the society we live in makes us feel like other idea besides their own is wrong, but it isn’t. Just because we believe in different things it doesn’t make us wrong. It hard to stand alone, but the right things are always the hardest to do.

I feel therapy an interesting career, but not physical. I like the type of therapy where you help people with problems they might have or advice they might need. So in other words I wouldn’t like to be a physical therapist because that isn’t my type of career. I have never imagine myself as a physical therapist and now that I learned about it I still don’t want to be one. It is an important medical career and I am happy it is increasing.

“If I’ve got correct goals, and if I keep pursuing them the best way I know how, everything else falls into line. If I do the right thing right, I’m going to succeed.
-Dan Dierdorf
In life we have to set goals, but we also need to make sure we accomplish them. We need to keep pursuing those goals/dreams until we accomplished them all. If you accomplished your goals then you won’t have to worry about anything else because it will all fall how it’s suppose to. You also have to make sure that you have the right goals. The goals that will help you become a better person. Making the right goals is as important as accomplishing them. For example, I have a lot of goals I want to completed, but if I’m not trying my best then what’s the point. We can’t just make goals and not reach them. The whole ideas is to completed them, not to forget about them. You will feel better if you have the correct goals and if you accomplish them. If you have goals and you accomplish them then everything else will be okay. This is a cause and effect; you do this and you get this back. It is that simply, we sometimes over complicate things. Just accomplish your goals, work hard, and try and this will help you succeed.

I enjoy reading and find amazing how good authors are at creating this whole new world. For example, The Harry Potter Series takes place in a whole different place where magic is real and anything you can imagine can happen. I like how reading certain books can help you see the world with different eyes. They help you believe that anything is possible. Books take you to new places every time you turn the page. Like I said I love reading so I have think about giving it a try, try to write my own little story. I have try multiple times, but I always end up being in a writer’s block and I can’t think straight. I doubt fiction writing will be a career I will like to focus on, but I know that I will at least like to write a book one day.

Phillip Riggs’ Four Success Tips
  1. Work Hard.
  2. Follow your passions. Do things you are interested in doing.
  3. Don’t chase after money.
  4. Serve others. Do good things for others, and good things will come to you.

The first tip is telling us to never give up on the things we want to accomplish the most. If you really want something then you should chase until you have it. You have to realize that getting what you want doesn’t come easy, it isn’t handed down to you, you have to work for it. The second tip is pretty straight forward, do what you love. Don’t work on something just because you get better pay or because others are telling you to do it. Work on something that you love because at the end of day that’s all that matters. Don’t let anything get in your way, fight until you have accomplished your passions. Thirdly, don’t do things for the money. Money isn’t the most important thing. What’s the point of doing something if you don’t enjoy it. You will never have a wonderful life if you’re in it for money. Lastly, help others, we are all in this world together, so why not help each others. Treat others the way you want to be treated because what comes around goes around. You help others then you will get help when you need it.

“The most important thing you will ever have is good values.”
-Dennis Prager
This statement means that if we don’t have values then what is the point. You may have everything, but if you don’t have good values then what’s the point. Everyone has different values and that’s okay because we were all brought up differently. If your values aren’t like others it doesn’t make them wrong. The big issue is when you have to debate with yourself because your wants get in the way of your values. For example, let’s say that you really want to go out, but your aren’t allow. You really want to sneak out, but if you go by your values you know it isn’t right. We should have wants and feelings, but sometimes they get in the way of our values. In order to prevent this from happening you need to figure out what is more important. Your wants changed throughout your life, but values don’t. If you fall for one want and later on you realized you didn’t want that, you went against your value for nothing. Living without values is living like a zombie; you have no distance and no brain.

“In any moment of decision, the best thing you can do is the right thing.”
-Theodore Roosevelt
No matter how difficult a decision can be you should always do the right thing because it is the best thing to do. Doing what’s wrong will always be hard to give up because at that moment you may see many benefits, but it is always best to do what’s right. This world is full of evil, but there is still a few people who do what’s right and those people make this world a better place. For example, a couple months ago I found a portable charge in my desk, in this class to be precise. I have been wanting a portable charge for the longest time, but I knew if I wanted one I can easily buy one. There is no need to get someone else’s, even if they left it. Without even thinking about it I gave it to the teacher and he thank me telling me that someone will most likely be looking for it. The next time I had this class a boy came up to me and thank me for finding his charge because it turns out he had just bought it and felt bad when he had lost it. I know this is a small action compare to others, but we all have to start somewhere, right? Do what is right, right away, don’t think about it too much. If it is right then do it!

“Nothing is ever gained in doing what’s wrong.”
-Wilford Woodruff
People do what is wrong for many different reasons, but the most common one is because you gained knowledge from those mistakes. The truth is you don’t gained knowledge because if you choose the wrong you already know you are choosing the wrong and where’s the knowledge in that. Now if you decide to choose the right you do know that is right, but you gain so much more than that.  For example, you don’t know what will come from choosing the right, but you know that it’s good. You will gain something out of it unlike choosing the wrong. An example can be, let’s say that this group of people decide to go to a party and do illegal things. They already know that if they get caught they will be sent to jail, maybe only for a little well depending on what they did, but they do expect this to happen if they get caught. At the end they do got caught and they say, “Oh next time I wouldn’t do this because I know I can go to jail. Lesson learned.” This isn’t gained knowledge because they already knew this could happen yet they still did it. There wasn’t anything gained from this experience, it just proved what you already knew. My question is why do people have to experience things in order for them to understand, it shouldn’t be like that. If you want to gained something then do what is right!

“It”s A GREAT MOMENT when someone has the character to step up and do the right thing at the right time.”
-Pam Knox
Sometimes doing the the right thing isn’t the easiest or the most desirable, but it is still right. When we know something is wrong then we need to have the courage to step up and do what is right, right away. Even the smallest of things, if it isn’t right then stand up and admit it. You may not want to do it and it won’t feel so good at that moment, but in the long run you will feel good about it. For example, let’s say that you and another kid have the same name. You get the other kid’s credit and you realized it helped you out, a lot. You know it is best to say something, but you don’t want to. You think about it for a while and soon realize that you will feel guilty if you don’t do something. You decide to say something and because of your honesty you are rewarded a bigger price. No, you didn’t get more points, but you got the price of having a clear conscious.

“I have been asked what I mean by ‘word of honor.’ I will tell you: Place me behind prison walls--walls of stone ever so high, ever so high, ever so thick, reaching ever so far into the ground--there is a possibility that in some way or another I might be able to escape; but stand me on the floor and draw a chalk line around me and have me give my word of honor never to cross it. Can I get out of that circle? No, never! I’d die first.”
-Karl G. Maeser
This statement means that our word is way more powerful than anything. Even if you promise to not do something even if it is easy, you wouldn’t do it because you promise not to. Your word of honor is something very powerful and some will rather die than break it. Karl mentions how he will try to get out of prison, but if he was surround by a circle and promise to never get out he won’t because he promised. Although getting out of a circle is way easier and isn’t breaking the law like getting out of prison is he will still stay in that circle. This is because he believes that your word of honor is more powerful than any law. For example, if someone tells me a secret and I give them my word than I will not say anything because I gave my word. I believe that a promise is meant to always be kept no matter what. Even if you aren’t friends with that person anymore, you promise you won’t say anything so you don’t. You don’t go behind that person’s back no matter what happens in the future. I live by that, I believe that, “A promise is a promise and it’s meant to be kept.” This relates to the statement because you gave your word, so you have to keep it.
