Occupational Medicine Physician
Duties and Responsibilities:
These physicians focus on health issues cause by working environment. For example, they focus on the prevention, evaluation, treatment and resolution of health conditions. In order to provide treatment they need to know the patient's working condition, past history, and any working conditions that may have lead to the illness. They also need to find out when the patient is ready to head back to work. These physician monitor and manage the clinical care of employees and improve their health care with health promotion and education. Another way they improve patient's health are by doing a workplace hazard analysis and ensuring that the workplace goes according to law.
Salary: $178, 251 - $240,795
Education:
A doctoral degree is usually needed for this medical career. You are require a degree in medicine from an accredited school of medicine and is licensed to practice medicine. At least 2-4 years of clinical experience in occupational medicine. You also need to know standard concepts, practice, and procedures within that field.
Demand:
This medical career is actually in a shortage of physicians. I am not sure why, but it isn't growing as quickly as other medical careers.
Reflection:
I will not be interested in becoming an Occupational Medicine Physician because I don't find it interesting. If this career involved kids then there will be a part of me who might find it a little bit interesting. There isn't many people in this field and I do find it important so I honestly hope more people find an interest in this medical career.
